ST. LUCIE COUNTY ” A local nonprofit designed to provide cheap loans for home energy improvements could have a permanent executive director by the end of the month, County Commissioner Chris Dzadovsky said.
In June, county commissioners received a $2.9 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy that will be used to help county residents save on energy consumption and energy costs.
Commissioners helped set up an independent nonprofit board called the Solar Energy Loan Fund. Dzadovsky is the president of the board.
While the board is getting matters such as insurance for the nonprofit set up, Dan Kurek has served as the interim executive director. He is one of three being considered for the executive director position, Dzadovsky said, although the board is still accepting applications. The next board meeting is set for Jan. 24, though the location is being finalized. At that time, Dzadovsky said he hopes to get board approval for the full-time new executive director. The salary has not been finalized.
As the final decisions on the executive director are made, Dzadovsky said the program has sent out more than 100 packages of information to residents interested in the loans. Dzadovsky said the group is gathering information from the potential applicants.
The loans originally will have an interest rate of 4 percent, though the rates can be altered for future
